“Mittring and Friends”
On my 6th I started crochet….still love to make woolen hats!
Since my 9th I have been making clothes for barbie and dolls….never stopped sewing clothes!
For my studies, pattern drawing, and sewing, I spent my apprenticeship in a boutique for New wave, punk, and second-hand clothing. Here I learned to restore and recycle textiles. As well I did the styling of the shop window and mannequins.
During my study (1993-1998) we organized several multi-disciplined fashion shows where fashion artists, musicians, talented hairdressers, and make-up artists found a podium in the underground scene. I still love to make costumes for theater or performances.
During my study of fashion design at Rietveld Academie, I was given the opportunity to take part in an art exchange between the “Mongolian museum of fine art” and the “Amsterdam Balloon Companie”. That brought me to Mongolia. Slowly I realized that besides living in a gypsy wagon I wanted to experience living in a ger (yurt). My sewing capacities extended to yurt cover sewing. Nowadays I am doing sewing works in many disciplines.
My label “Mittring and Friends”exists thanks to all my friends who supplie me with textiles, help me with transport and inspire me.
The chalenge is blowing new life in “worthless” textiles: UPCYCLING. I have a big collection of mittens, legwarmers, cardigans, pulovers, mini-skirts, and hats. All made from wooly textiles. Designs for him and her!
Beside styling for fashion shoots, I love to do interior styling . Every year in july we decorate a little forest for a Gipsy jazz festival ”Petit Samois”. My gipsy wagon can be booked for photo shoots and at home, I am starting a little shop, since I am missing my clients on the markets as Ruigmarkt, Waterlooplein, Eigentijds festival, Oerol, etc…
It will be called “Hieperdepiep”.
Curious? Please contact me first since I often work on location.
Love and Light, Marie-Suzanne Mittring.
